Revolution Library Reading Series: Elsa Dorlin

Let’s make political education more accessible one book at a time! SATURDAY MORNINGS you can join Fortuna Major Press on Instagram live to read leftist political theory written primarily by BIPOC, LGBTQ2S+, and disabled authors. This is a place to connect and learn alongside people dreaming of more just, liberated futures.

About Our Reading Choice

Our reading series will begin with Self Defense: A Philosophy of Violence by Elsa Dorlin. Elsa Dorlin looks across the global history of the left - from slave revolts to the knitting women of the French Revolution and British suffragists' training in ju-jitsu, from the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising to the Black Panther Party, from queer neighborhood patrols to Black Lives Matter - to trace the politics, philosophy, and ethics of self-defense. This book asks you to reflect on whether and when violent self-defense is ethical.

*Support independent presses and bookstores! You can purchase a copy of this book directly from publisher Verso Books or local bookstores like Bookends in Florence, MA.
