Creative Collage Workshop With Jules Jones at Launch Space

  • 131 W Main St Orange, Massachusetts 01364 United States (map)

About The Workshop:

Want to express an emotion, thought, or idea in a free-form way? Collage is a fun, user-friendly art technique that yields beautiful and unique results for each artist. Join local Western Mass-based artist Jules Jones in a creative collage art class at Launch Space in Orange, Massachusetts from 10 am to 12 pm. You don't need any prior experience or to bring your own materials to participate.

Participants can choose from a wealth of materials to collage with, such as fabric, paper, old photographs, and scraps of old artworks on paper supplied by Jules. Feel free to draw with different drawing tools or use acrylic paint to create bold, intuitive marks on your self-generated collage materials before we glue them down on our small canvases. Once the collage elements are placed and glued, participants can choose to continue layering if need be. No one approach is right or wrong; Jules encourages risk-taking and improvisation. Artists are encouraged to take their project home and continue working if they wish.

About The Facilitator:

Jules Jones is a queer disabled artist living and working in Franklin County, MA. Jones’s “collage paintings” are maximalist mixed media works that reflect their process of repurposing old artworks into collage material. Print media such as monotype, screen prints, and lithographs meet scraps of newspaper, works on paper, or childhood drawings; all become affixed to a surface, to be further painted and drawn on, in a nearly endless feedback loop of layering- until a precise visual balance is achieved. Jones's prior paintings on canvas or paper become cannibalized, cut into whimsical butterflies and flowers, or universal motifs such as body outlines and faces. Each painting becomes a multi-colored quilt, where figures dance and patterns emerge. This furious recycling of self-made materials results in mosaic-like paintings with an imaginative, otherworldly quality.
